What is “Do I Have the Flu?

“Do I Have the Flu?” is a symptom checker in MyChart that you can use if you think you may have the flu. Based on your answers to a series of questions, you’ll find out the likelihood of your symptoms being the flu, and will be given options for getting care.

 


How do I access “Do I Have the Flu?”

You will access “Do I Have the Flu?” from MyChart. Once you log into MyChart, click on the “Health” tab at the top of window. You will find “Do I Have the Flu?” in the list that pops up after you click on “Health.” Complete the questions to learn if you have a high, medium or low likelihood of having the flu.                                         

 


How long does it take?

It takes about 3 minutes to complete the module.

 


What happens after I complete "Do I have the flu"

After you complete “Do I Have the Flu?” you will be given options for getting care. Depending on your symptoms and medical conditions, one or more of these options may be appropriate for you.

  • Video visit with a UCSF doctor
  • Appointment for an in-person visit with a UCSF doctor
  • Instructions for self-care
  • Instructions to call the clinic for an expedited Tamiflu prescription
  • Advice to go to seek immediate care, such as by going to the emergency room​​​​

 


Does “Do I Have the Flu?” replace my doctor?

“Do I Have the Flu?” does not replace your doctor. Rather, it gives you personalized information about your symptoms. You will always have the option to contact a doctor or set up an appointment at the end of the questions.    

 


How much does it cost to use?                                                                                                                    There is no cost to use “Do I Have the Flu?” module. But, if you see a doctor afterwards by video or in person, that visit will be billed to you or your insurance just like any other doctor’s visit.

 


Do I have to use “Do I Have the Flu?” in order to get help?                                                                         “Do I Have the Flu?” is optional. You can still send a MyChart message, call your clinic for advice, or make an appointment to see your doctor.

 


What are the benefits of using "Do I have the flu?"

Benefits include:

  • Understanding your likelihood of having the flu
  • Connecting quickly with the right level of care
  • Depending on your symptoms, you may have the option to see a doctor by video visit without having to come into clinic
  • Depending on your symptoms, you may qualify to get an expedited Tamiflu prescription by phone
  • Not having to explain your symptoms more than once, since answers will be stored in your medical record

 


When can I use “Do I Have the Flu?”?
“Do I Have the Flu?” will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week during flu season (approximately mid-December through the end of February)

 


Who can use “Do I Have the Flu?”?

Current UCSF patients who get primary care at either Laurel Village Primary Care Clinic or the Women’s Health Clinic at Mount Zion can use the symptom checker.

 


Can I go back to see my answers after using “Do I Have the Flu?”?

Your answers are saved for 48 hours.

 


What happens to my answers after using “Do I Have the Flu?”?

Your answers go into your chart, allowing your doctor to review your answers before your visit.

 


Will someone contact me based on my answers?

No. You will need to reach out to get care by picking one of the scheduling options that are offered at the end of the module, by calling your clinic, or by going to an urgent care or emergency room.
